The solution has multiple violations of the rule that when the color changes, there can be no empty squares in between. Either that, or the rules or mis-stated in the FAQ. I'm not sure which, because I'm new to the color type of nonograms.

Thanks, swford. I agree that's the rule this puzzle played by (and probably more if I continue to look around), but that's not how the "Instruction" page here explains things. I'm not new to nonograms, but I'm new to this site and the color kind, so I was going by that. That page says, "Between the groups of one colour there should be at least one unpainted square (otherwise they would make one group). Between groups of different colour there can be no empty squares." Either rule is fine if you know it, but that's a significant difference from the first color puzzle I happened to try.

I think you have to read 'there can be no empty squares' as 'it is possible that there are no empty squares' and not as 'it is forbidden that there are empty squares'. In that way the rules correspond to how the coloured puzzles work. Probably a language problem. To me as a non native speaker, it makes sense.

Ah, that makes more sense. It could be worded more clearly for sure, but you're right, that would resolve the contradiction I was hung up on. Thanks for making it makes sense to me (a native english speaker).

replyI love QBert but these colours are just to close to each other, which made it annoying to do the puzzle, sorry
replyVery nice shading, but the colours were very similar and it made it hard to select the right colour.
replythe most beautifull thing ive seen in my entire life
replyNow *this* is a game sprite I remember well! Very cute!

Yes, the colours were pretty close together, but I for one didn't find it a problem and really enjoyed this puzzle... as well as the result. And if you don't recognize the characters in these puzzles, why not just look them up! From Wikipedia: Q*bert is an arcade game developed and published for the North American market by Gottlieb in 1982. It is a 2D action game with puzzle elements that uses isometric graphics to create a pseudo-3D effect.
