| Grandmother!..Oh...Butterfly! | 28 August 2023, 19:09 | Ah, that would explain it. There's really no good way to translate puns in titles, so in this case I suppose it couldn't be helped. |
| Grandmother!..Oh...Butterfly! | 12 August 2023, 11:09 | I don't understand the title; I guess I only have enough brain cells to solve puzzles and don't have any left over for comprehending titles. I see the butterfly, but what does the grandmother part mean? |
| The mermaid | 16 July 2023, 8:39 | (And yeah I redid the whole puzzle to get the screenshot lmao, although of course it's a lot easier the second time around since I literally just did it) |
| The mermaid | 16 July 2023, 8:37 | I've been craving a challenge so I've been going through and redoing Lalopop's puzzles, and as usual this one didn't disappoint! I liked how it wasn't just tricky in the beginning, there was also a point near the end where I was stuck for a little and had to use an advanced technique. My time was just barely under 10 minutes no hints, so it's not the hardest Lalopop puzzle, but it certainly wasn't easy and definitely gave me that sense of accomplishment from finishing a difficult puzzle without hints. I really liked this one part where once you realize the marked square has to be an x regardless of whether it's a 1 or a 2, the rest of the puzzle immediately falls into place, it was super satisfying. |
| Sharks | 14 July 2023, 6:40 | I agree with the other comment about this being less difficult than a typical Lalopop puzzle, but it was still fun to solve, and while my eyes didn't quite parse it at first when it was normal size, I went and looked at the thumbnail and it looks amazing at thumbnail size |
| Irish deer | 10 July 2023, 8:10 | I miss Lalopop puzzles, it's a shame we haven't had a new one in a long time. They're often quite tricky, and delightfully fun every single time, and I love the minimalistic style of the resulting images that still manages to accurately and elegantly convey exactly what it's supposed to be. This puzzle in particular was fiendishly difficult, it had me sitting there stumped at multiple points going over it over and over with a fine toothed comb trying to find that single place where I could logically deduce there must/can't be a square that will trigger the next series of moves to all fall into place. You know it HAS to be there, there's no need for guesses or hints, but it takes more than just the usual basic counting to find it, you get to enjoy using advanced techniques. I honestly haven't had this much fun solving a nonogram in a very, very long time, it makes me wish you could favorite puzzles so you can easily find them when you're in the mood to do them again. |
| Shell | 1 June 2023, 6:02 | Ooh, I hadn't noticed that before, thanks! |
| Stealth-fighter | 18 February 2023, 3:31 | I know what it's supposed to be, but my mind can't help but see it as a delta kite like the ones I had as a kid. I guess it's not surprising since they're basically the same shape, you can even find delta kites that are designed to look like stealth bombers. |
| Jack-O'-Lantern | 20 December 2022, 0:45 | Honestly, I pity countries that don't do Halloween. As an adult participation is extremely voluntary, you can just turn off your porch light to deter trick-or-treaters and ignore the festivities, and plenty of areas don't even get many kids because they gravitate towards the neighborhoods with the best offerings. If you're not into parties or scary movies, you can just treat it like any other night. However, I adore Halloween, we get a bunch of candy, I wear a scary costume, and I terrify some children (and sometimes their parents too). My less scary friends give out candy to those who are too young/frightened. Plus the playfully spooky fun vibe of the holiday is just delightful, and unlike other holidays I don't have to shop for presents or prepare an extravagant meal, I get to just enjoy it. And of course, for a child there's nothing like being able to dress up as anything you want and then go around collecting candy, there's no beating that. In case it wasn't obvious, it's my favorite holiday. |
| Ballot Box | 16 November 2022, 12:40 | If there's one pre-pandemic thing I don't miss (aside from having to awkwardly greet delivery people instead of no contact delivery), it's in-person voting. |
| Key | 9 September 2022, 2:55 | Such a tiny puzzle from a giant butt. |
| Chick | 27 August 2022, 21:15 | I've always viewed it as a problem of not being specific enough and defining what you mean when asking a question. Assuming that question is specifically referring to chicken eggs rather than just eggs of any kind (which I think most people are when they say that), you have to decide whether a "chicken egg" is any egg that contains a chicken, or if it also has to have been laid by a chicken. If it's the former then yeah, of course the egg came first, but if they're thinking the latter, then technically the latter. Either way though, you're right, now that we know about evolution the question is really a non-issue; once you state specifically what you count as a "chicken" and as an "egg", it's immediately obvious what the answer is. |
| Lying emphasis | 25 August 2022, 4:57 | You could try yoga, but I don't know if it really counts as exercise; that might be a bit of a stretch. |
| Circus Train | 25 August 2022, 4:40 | It reminds me of the old animal cracker boxes I'd see as a kid. The cookies weren't really that great, but I always wanted them because the box with the string and the fun shapes made it feel so special. Truly a brilliant marketing ploy. |
| White Dog | 23 June 2022, 5:13 | I don't think I've ever seen a puzzle this tiny utilize negative space like this before. |
| Shell | 22 June 2022, 5:06 | I can reduce the size of the image to get an approximation of what the thumbnail would look like, but when I look for puzzles I have thumbnails for unsolved images disabled, and I have "Hide solved crosswords" checked. If I refreshed the page the puzzle would disappear because it's solved, and if I unchecked that box it would take a long time to find it sifting through all the other solved puzzles. |
| Homeless | 24 May 2022, 2:19 | Seeing that there's a new yec72 puzzle: :) Finishing the puzzle and reading the title: :( |
| Angry lynx | 30 April 2022, 8:17 | What a great puzzle! Not only was it super fun to solve, but the picture looks amazing for the size. |
| Sitting cat | 20 April 2022, 7:49 | I don't know if I'd call it hard, but I learned black and white first, and I prefer them. Colored puzzles often prioritize making a pretty picture over a fun puzzle, so they can be tedious and have many similar colors, which are very boring with lots of alternating 1s and frustrating to solve trying not to mix up close colors. The difficulty with black and white puzzles comes from having to use logic to solve, not distinguishing between 3 nearly identical reds. |
| Betta | 18 April 2022, 8:49 | I guess I'm in the minority here, because even before I saw the title I recognized what it was. Maybe it's because as a kid I had several betta fish. Personally, I think it's a very good depiction of one for the small size. |
| Deer | 18 April 2022, 7:50 | What a lovely picture for such a small image! And it was a fun solve too. |
| Octopus | 17 April 2022, 5:35 | I assumed that was the head. |
| Octopus | 16 April 2022, 7:23 | It's a couple tentacles short of an octopus. A sextopus perhaps? |
| Spider | 7 April 2022, 10:18 | Lovely puzzle! It had a nice level of challenge, and the picture is great and immediately recognizable. My favorite puzzles are these smaller ones that really require you to think about it at times in order to solve it. |
| Cossack | 7 April 2022, 9:46 | For some reason I had a really hard time seeing the picture, I had to zoom out a bunch and see it at thumbnail size for me to finally realize that one part is a mustache, and after that I could finally see the face. |
| Cossack | 7 April 2022, 9:43 | This one took me 15:06. The average is almost always way lower than my time. I'm not great at working on a time limit and when I try to rush it makes things less fun; I'm more prone to freezing up or making casual mistakes. I've just decided not to stress about what other people's times are and enjoy the puzzle at my own pace. Sometimes I get distracted irl, wander off to another tab for a bit, or futz with my music, and I don't worry about that ruining my time because I'm not trying to beat anyone else, just solve the puzzle for my own enjoyment. Some people enjoy making it a race and finishing as fast as possible, so they likely bring down the average, and aside from hints there are settings that can make it easier like automatically crossing out completed columns and rows. I saw a comment once that said they turned on auto check for mistakes and just filled out the whole puzzle then deleted the ones marked wrong, and I don't understand the point of that? Isn't solving it the fun part? |
| Crocodile | 2 April 2022, 8:32 | Great picture for its size! |
| Pigeon | 2 April 2022, 8:25 | I'm so confused by the comments on this picture. Did the colors get changed to contrast better? Did the comments for this picture get mixed with those for a different one? Did the barista slip something extra into my latte? The colors I see are black, magenta, lavender, forest green, pale green, and yellow. None of them are remotely similar to each other, and there are no blues or greys or any colors that could even be mistaken for such. |
| Lilac | 31 March 2022, 16:08 | Normally I hate color puzzles with lots of ones, they tend to be very boring and tedious to solve and more about creating a pretty picture than a fun puzzle, but this one wasn't like that at all, it was fun and I genuinely had to think to figure out where each pixel would go next. On top of it all the resulting picture is gorgeous, I don't normally enjoy color puzzles this much. |
| Poppy <Stardew Valley> | 31 March 2022, 7:41 | There are actually poppies called California poppies that can range from yellow to deep orange. When I was a young kid (in California as it happened) I didn't even know poppies could be red, I always thought of them as orange flowers, and even now if someone refers to poppies I think of the orange kind first. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d5/California_poppies_open.jpg |
| Rabbit Terraria | 30 March 2022, 7:49 | I hate these two nearly identical turquoises even more than I hate myself. Nothing would have significantly changed with the final image if they were just the same color, they didn't need to be two subtly different shades. |
| Apple <Stardew Valley> | 24 March 2022, 10:38 | I hate game sprite puzzles because they tend to have too many very similar colors and lots of rows of 1s to have beautiful shading that makes for very tedious solving. I value the fun of solving over the aesthetics of the final picture but video game sprites are usually the other way around. |
| Radish <Stardew Valley> | 24 March 2022, 10:14 | Looks nice, but the two reds are way too similar. I enjoy logic puzzles, not visual acuity puzzles. I already know my vision is bad. |
| Flying Parrot | 24 March 2022, 5:01 | I think if you love your cat (and love animals in general) and you live in Australia your cat should be an indoor cat. They're wonderful little animals but also killing machines that have managed to single-handedly (single-pawedly?) cause the extinctions of a bunch of species already. They're an ecological nightmare (one might say a cat-astrophe). Indoor cats live longer healthier lives anyway, and nobody can tomato your cat if it's not outside in the first place (unless you have some very rude house guests). |
| Mug of tea | 10 March 2022, 9:36 | I thought it was a phonograph until I saw the title |
| Horse | 9 March 2022, 6:52 | About to stomp on a picnic table |
| Bunny | 6 March 2022, 7:56 | Wasn't expecting to see these until April |
| Film | 6 March 2022, 7:53 | Kinda funny to see this on a digital platform. |
| Wolf | 4 March 2022, 6:21 | This is a good example of a situation where there shouldn't be false equivalencies made with arguments about "both sides." Just because there are two sides to an issue doesn't mean both sides have equal merit. You call this a "war", but this isn't a "war", it's an *invasion*, this isn't some moral quandary where both sides have equivalently decent arguments for their actions and motivations; Putin invaded for the purposes of increasing territory and consolidating power; the Ukrainians are simply trying to defend themselves. |
| Floppy disk | 24 February 2022, 8:49 | Don't be silly, any young person knows that's a save icon ;) |
| Amogus | 13 February 2022, 8:57 | I hate these more than minions. They're just the zoomer version of minions but they're even worse than them as nonograms because every single one of them looks the exact same so they're both obnoxious AND boring. |
| Pussy | 2 February 2022, 5:48 | I was *not* prepared for that title. I know what they meant, but... |
| Kakadu | 23 January 2022, 4:12 | Cockatoo? Kaka-doo sounds like a childish insult some kid would call cockatoos |
| Coaxing the Butterfly | 23 January 2022, 4:07 | I can see it after squinting but for the first several seconds staring at it it felt like some kind of abstract art |
| Owl | 20 January 2022, 0:23 | Who? |
| Smile | 10 January 2022, 15:37 | Terrifying |
| Little Frog | 5 January 2022, 21:12 | had to squint to see the koala, I can see it now but I saw it as a frog first before I had even completely finished the puzzle |
| Cat | 5 January 2022, 13:30 | I wouldn't think there would be many cheetahs in the jungle, they'd starve to death pretty quickly without wide open plains they can run unimpeded in to catch prey |
| Chimney | 5 January 2022, 13:28 | I imagine it might actually get a bit hot if there's a fire lit |
| Tsunami | 31 December 2021, 15:19 | I was thinking that hill from the nightmare before christmas |
