Indian son19 September 2019, 2:24Please note: Vlan is Russian-speaking, makes comments on the mother-site at nonograms.ru, and may not look at the nonograms.com site. (You may find what language the artists speaks by clicking on Author, clicking on info, clicking on comments).

Last year I tried to explain why an image of an old-fashioned stereotyped African slave was offensive to me. The Russian author was very confused. I said it would hurt people. She said the image was from a story in which an African child is rescued from a slave-ship by Russians sailors, who has freedom in Russia and is cared for with kindness. For the artist the image was a symbol of love and acceptance.

I have since made a greater effort to respect the culture of our Russian-speaking artists, and (having learned they are volunteers whose reward is our gratitude), say (if I can say nothing else) "thank you" (спасибо).
Indian18 September 2019, 23:15Many Russian-speaking artists rely on the site managers to translate the title of the nonogram into English. So another alternative is to contact the site managers and request that they use a different title.
Indian18 September 2019, 23:10If you want to do this, note that Vlan is Russian-speaking, may not look at this site, and makes his comments on the mother-site at nonograms.ru (you may find this info by clicking on Author, clicking on info, clicking on comments). I tried to explain why an image of a old-fashioned stereotyped African slave was offensive and the author was very confused because it was from a story in which the child was rescued by Russians and given freedom. So I just say thank you (спасибо), allow Russian-speaking artists to be what they are, and am amazed and grateful for access to nonograms puzzles for which I used to pay a lot of money.

Dog18 September 2019, 22:36I recommend you master the previous level of difficulty first.
Then use the hint button when you are stuck and see if you know what solving rule was used to get that solution.
Review Methods of Solving (in menu).
Be patient with yourself. You'll soon *see* what to do (like learning to drive).

Pawn16 September 2019, 9:40BC11: click on Authors to see a list of artists. It takes awhile for new artists to master this form.
If you click on the artist's page, you can see if s/he made comments and in what language. Most are in Russian.
Duck16 September 2019, 9:16Brief response to HVMh: the artists don't get paid, their pay is in our gratitude, I noticed new artists often got overlooked, the mother site is Russian-language, if you click on the comments made by the artist you can see what language the artist speaks, I have poor eyesight and have to enlarge the puzzles so value the smaller black-and-whites and most color ones are too fussy for me (if anyone comes across a color puzzle that isn't fussy--like sergey's magnificent "Christmas candles"-- please let me know).
