Sunset12 November 2022, 0:32I get the same results TNG did.
Butterfly11 November 2022, 22:40It really ought to be called a flutterby. After all, a fly can't butter and butter can't fly, but these lovelies flutter by.

Cake10 November 2022, 23:03In England, many desserts (including cake (or "gateau")) may come with a pitcher of custard--something like a cross between what we Yanks call custard and heavy cream. You know the damage you're doing to your arteries, but you pour it on regardless. But I haven't been in England for maybe 20 years, so the custom may have changed.
Hot Dog10 November 2022, 22:22It was definitely an escalator. Until it wasn't.

Lifeboat5 November 2022, 6:52Having discarded the conviction that it was a jukebox, I took the oar to be the handle of an old-fashioned slot machine. Wrong again!
Lifeboat5 November 2022, 6:50That's what the shape said to me.
Brush and Palette4 November 2022, 20:26Nah. I like the crunch.
Cloud4 November 2022, 20:16When I was in the (US) Navy, I worked briefly for a (Royal) Navy officer. One day I was typing a letter in which he'd mentioned both Pearl Harbor and Pearl Harbour. I went to him and said, "I can spell American and I can spell English, but I think you should be consistent." He looked all flustered and asked me who he was writing to. I can't remember now (it's been 50 years) whether it was USN or RN, but he just told me to make the spelling appropriate to the recipient.

Luka has had just about every conceivable job and participated in every conceivable sport, and occasionally interacts with his granny. He can always be recognized by his boots and his hat (4 pixels over 5) although Stacey seems to have appropriated them here.

Ice cream in a croissant11 September 2022, 20:30I never ran across compote with this sense. Regional differences, I imagine. I would call it a sundae dish. (Although, as I worked from the bottom up, I was certain it was a cocktail glass.)
