Idiom. It means he never would have guessed (not in a million years) what the picture was going to be. High praise, Vigil. Friends, you see it when you look in the thumbnail. And what a fun puzzle to solve! Thank you, Vigil!
replyI see a dog with it's head in a hole in the roots of a tree.

We can't always get to the bottom of things--sometimes the fun is in the trying. It reminds me of that camp song "There's a hole in bottom of the sea." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UK6UNRnbfnw

Very well done. I'm in agreement with Kate. Just substitute the dog.
replyTbh, I didn't know raccoons built their homes at the bottom of trees. I would also bet that poor dog hasn't met a raccoon face-to-face before. The ones I've seen are bigger than he is! He's going to get a bloody nose, if anyone is at home! But I bet his tail is wagging like crazy!!
replyI liked the crossword, not sure about the subject and I love the song Sheryl shared :p

Cute! Didn't guess until I saw the thumbnail, but the title could fit perfectly - if raccoons are burrowers. If not, many other animals are, and that could be the end of a terrier .
Yes, difficult to distinguish while in the complete puzzle screen. I'm looking forward to seeing the thumbnail. Thanks.
replyI just managed to solve this without a single guess or getting stuck for long.
