Wow. This is great! You've captured far more than we notice at first glance. There's the subject itself, then there's the background. And to top it off, you have the action. What a gutsy move! Amazing in a 12x12.

Difficult to make out at first, but very good once you see it!

It looks like the queen is falling, not the king, so...uncheckmate?

I thought it was the queen at first, too. Then as I was looking at the thumbnail, I suddenly saw the cross on the king's little crown. I don't know *how* it got there, but I see it now! There is a whole field dedicated to perception. Since it happens in the mind (not the eyes), I can't explain how it got into my head... ;)

I think you see it… because it is there! When we compare the black figure with the white one we realize who is who…

Well I am glad that I made a 12x12 detailed enough to see the difference between king and queen. I'm actually not a chess player, so that might explain, but the cross would have been relatively too big I think, so I went with impression rather than reality.
For such a small puzzle, it's impressive. Clever, elegant and beautiful.
replyVery impressive! It's so neatly put together that, despite its size, it is both challenging and recognizable. I think you've mastered the art of Nonograms! :)
replyVery enjoyable solution - and breathtaking reward.
replygreat idea and great execution, especially for a 12x12!
replyWow, you can make such complicated little puzzles! And so beautiful!
