We girls used to walk around with books on our heads in order to improve our posture. You know, "walk like a princess." Possibly it's still a thing in the author's country. :)

Since Sheryl's response wasn't very helpful, The character is Wendy Corduroy from the American cartoon show Gravity Falls. The weird swoopy thing on top of her head is supposed to be her signature trapper hat. Not the greatest image, but decent for a bunch of pixels and recognizable for those familiar with the show.

Thank you, Anna! That does explain a lot! I'm afraid I'm a total nerd and clueless about popular culture (unless it's Star Trek, Star Wars, Harry Potter, LOTR, etc.). ;)
