I found it. It is a Twilight Zone episode that I never saw, but which was referenced on The Simpsons and The Drew Carey show. I recognized it from there Simpsons.

Wow, reading this conversation made me feel REALLY old. And I'm not even old enough to have watched the original Twilight Zone, other than in reruns (this ep aired in 1959, when my mother was 3YO). But when I was growing up, most people knew exactly where this reference came from.
