I had to stare at it for several minutes to rediscover the answer. (It's been over a year, and my mind is not what it was.) The thing on the left is not a clock: it's an alligator/crocodile egg, and the parent (who's "expecting") is waiting for the crack to widen and the baby to emerge.

Really interesting puzzle to complete. The next step would just emerge, yet the puzzle still required thought. And not a lot of counting!
