What was I missing? Couldn't do this one without a hint.

It's hard to know what you missed. If you did all of the obvious "it has to be squares" it really didn't take a great deal to figure out the rest?
replyI had biggest problem with row "1,1,3", You must try, there is no option that "3" will be on on top. Maybe it is problem?
replyA wonderful secret about hints: they are an excellent way to master new methods of solving puzzles if you compare the answer to the "Methods for Solving." I used some of Tverianka's most challenging small puzzles to learn new tricks that continue to be useful.

I'm sorry--that's hard and I know the feeling!
I made use of hints on some of Tverianka's most challenging small puzzles to master the rules that make the puzzles soluble--looking at the answer and then looking at the "Methods for Solving" to see what I missed--then clearing the puzzle and doing it over and over until I understood.
I hope that's helpful.

No bifurcation/try&error needed. Everything can be found logically, no holes in logic. Small, good difficulty puzzle.

I found it hard to begin, but the the rest was logic - even if I must admit I made some mistakes. Thanks.
replyNow this one was hard! I admit I had to use two hints (to make feel good those "professors" among us ;-)). It needed kind of logic I didn't have to use for a long time. Well, when you're stuck just take square after square and ask yourself: "Can this be black or not?" :-)
replyIt was hard, but I did it in half an hour and did not use hints. I am surprised myself. And I like this cute hen. :)

If you don't make a mistake, it's pretty straight forward without any fancy techniques. The difficulty comes from only being able to do one dot at a time.
replyAfter the first 1000 nonograms, it is not that difficult…
