Don't understand the picture but it was definitely hard. Had to use two hints. :-)
replyThat image is either pathetic or brilliant, depending on one's aesthetic sense (I gave the author the benefit of the doubt, and ranked it 'excellent').
replyThe picture is rating is too high.
If you want to do it without hints, remember to use the old "this space must NOT be filled because..." technique.

I am so stuck on this puzzle. After doing the (left numbers) 5, 1... 7... and 4, 4... where do you go from there?? I can't see any options.

If I understand your stage, check the variantes how the black squares can be located in column 1 1 2 3

May the square in column 1 1 2 3 and line 1 2 be painted?

A tip if you are stuck right after begining. There is a 4 in the last column. Could it be at the very top? No because then, the first line's 3 would be at the very right and the column before the last one couldn't begin with a 2. So the square at the top right can be crossed. Could the 4 begin at the 2d line? ...

how do you know that the column before the last one couldn't begin with a 2?

The only way if you stuck is ... to search lines with sprinkled dots and go through each position. First check if it is possible if it is filled. Then check, if it is possible if it is blank. This way NO puzzle is hard... BUT: There is a lot of work going this way. Better is ... if you have a feeling where it is worth to look... That makes it hard!
replyVery tough, requires a bit of thought! Thanks for the challenge.
