I have my profile set to automatically putting in the "x". For this crossword, "x" were put in the wrong spot. This is the first time I have noticed this happening.

Do you mean to fill in the Xs after you have filled in the squares?

Yes, it does that some times. I don't know the exact conditions; it's something like all of the correct squares filled, as well as some incorrect; when you clear some squares, the program puts Xs back in.
