Japanese crossword «Air balloon»

Cute, and fun to figure out!

A little trickier than expected, but not too bad.

Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon? The Fifth Dimension.

This puzzle doesn't give much away at the start, but from there is a straight-forward solve. It moves simply from top to bottom, and aside from a tricky move along the top edge, does not offer much in the way of challenge. Once a solver begins to work their way down the sides, the puzzle collapses toward the middle, making filling in the missing pixels progressively less satisfying. The edge logic at the start feels betrayed by the lack of complexity afterwards. The puzzle flows nicely despite an uneven level of challenge.

The resulting image is quite pleasing. The level of detail is nice for such a limited space, and the pixels at row 11 really 'hold' the whole thing together. A nice touch. This feels like an example of the image creating a logical solve by pure chance, rather than the constructor designing a puzzle around an idea. Either way, it is sure to satisfy fans of tiny puzzles.

Quite a nice little puzzle, not overly easy, but still a nice work through for such a small picture.

I thought it was a little person with big hair ...

Could also be a flowerpot. With a real big flower.
