***True story alert***
An older chap that I used to work with was doing this in a veteran's race over the Yorkshire moors - pedalling at top speed - head right down - leading the pack - when BANG!!!
He hadn't seen the parked car with the boot (trunk) open. He hit the back of the car - went over the handlebars & ended up lying in the boot of the car!
Moral of the story - lift your head up now & then - just to check.
