Not a bad idea, although not my favorite, and these tend to be very easy no matter what you do.
There's no way I would consider this a 3-star difficulty puzzle. I finished this in 6 minutes, and that never happens on puzzles that difficult.

I think the puzzles start at 3 stars. Since you were the first one here that is what you saw?

Yeah, it was 3 stars at the start. I'm pretty sure that the computer program to check that the puzzles are solvable assigns them a rating at the start, but those get altered by the users' ratings. Usually the program is pretty accurate, but there are times when it is pretty wildly off.
replyQuestions from a newish non-X-er: When you solve without Xs, do you then rate the puzzle? I do not - seems like it would skew the results. And do you allow the Xs that automatically fill in but just not enter your own Xs, or do you turn off the automatic ones too? I've been allowing them.
