More like, on top of it. As I understand it, in some parts of the world hedgehogs will wander through certain kinds of fields and end up picking up small mushrooms with their quills, which has led to some cute depictions of them 'carrying' stuff on their back.
Though there are other comments online suggesting that any vids of hedgehogs with apples or mushrooms stuck to their backs are staged.

Thanks for the explanation. They are still cute here in the USA where they dont exist naturally to dig up your garden or haul off with your produce. In my back yard we have chickens who do that.

I didn't even realize until recently that none of the species were native to the Americas at all. I just figured they weren't local to my neck of the woods (IL/IA border). But I should've realized, given I've only ever seen them online, on TV, etc. I can't even recall having seen one in a zoo, though I've only ever been to a few of them.
