I'd say it's a dog without a gie at the end. The face and stance seem to signal an expression of "open for business" and "you and who else?" :)

I don't time myself because I often do a puzzle for a few minutes here and there in between work. I also don't like to rush through something I'm enjoying! That's why I don't time myself on the NYT crossword every day. I treat it like a nice meal, something to be savored! :)
