Some of us enjoy the additional challenge of not filling in Xs manually, just letting the computer do it when a row/column is done.
replyI think it's counter-productive. To me; not using x's means disabling the automatic row/column fill and not manually placing an 'x' in a eliminated box. It can be done, but can be time consuming.
A better challenge is working the color Nonograms in the order of color presented at the top of the puzzle. So if Red is the first color of the list, then complete only the red's in the puzzle. Then subsequently complete the following colors in order. If Blue or Green is next, then only complete the Blues or greens. It's much more challenging and time consuming, but can be done.

symmetrical ones are great for practicing not using x’s! Especially when I already know that it’ll be a butterfly (:(3:38)
