Stereotypes aside, yarn is a dangerous toy for a kitty: it's really easy for them to start eating the ball up and choke on it if they manage to find one of the ends!

I would add that anything long and stringy, like rubber bands/elastic bands, can also get knotted up in their intestines leading to a dangerous (and expensive) problem. Watch them if you use a string while playing with them and don't leave it out where they can get to it unsupervised.
