Today, in the western church, is "The Annunciation". Angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would be the mother of our Lord nine months before we celebrate his birth. I don't know that Santa had anything to do with the annunciation but, at the very least, the posting of this puzzle today is a coincidence.
