This a fascinating species. Stephen Jay Gould writes lovingly about it in "Hen's Teeth and Horse's Toes". The females are large and the males are tiny. Once they match, the male attaches himself to the female and their tissues blend. The male trades its freedom for a cushioned life in which the female feeds him while he impregnates her, for the rest of their lives.
