It used to be some kind of rule, in the US anyway, that it didn't start until the day after Thanksgiving. The Macy's Thanksgiving Parade always ended with Santa Clause telling us to start shopping. The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas felt festive and special. Pumpkin pie spice blending into hot chocolate and candy canes. A month to celebrate and see family and bake. Now the stores start decorating around Halloween. OK I guess. But seriously, September is not even over yet! Maybe it's just because I was a kid then and now I'm a boring old adult, but it seems like stretching it out so much makes it less magical.

I was so sure I used the spoiler tag. I'm really sorry, but at least I didn't completely give it away.
replyAbsolutely! Santa at the end of the parade was permission to start decorating the house, sing Christmas carols and so on. I love Christmas carols, but after hearing them since October even I tire of them; although on the other hand I get annoyed when suddenly at 5:00 pm on December 25th they all suddenly vanish. Hey, people! Christmas is only the first of The Twelve Days of Christmas. [Although there's and equally valid opinion that the First Day is the 26th.]
Bah, humbug!
