Harder than it needed to be because the light gray was too close to white and the two dark colors too close to each other.

I agree. But, there was a time or two that I put a dark color on top of a light color accidentally. Really nice result, though.

Absolutely, the lightest color was ridiculously close to white... the dark gray vs. black was pretty obvious (to my eyes), but fully agree with you on the lightest color.
