fish on Friday - that's a Catholic custom. and beer on Friday is a more generic custom ;-)

Fish on Friday hasn't been a requirement since the 1960s; but I can't see anything else that might be. Of course, I prefer not to have heads on the fish I eat...

I just looked up Russian Orthodox rules on fasting and apparently adults in good health are supposed to avoid meat AND fish on Fridays (and also Wednesdays). So I don't get this.
