As he surveyed his kingdom, the worm looked down from upon his mighty throne. Towering above all his subjects, he looked imperiously down upon the inferior beings. Never to see the world as he did, never to attain such glorious heights. Never to feel the power of reigning unoppressed over a kingdom that offered all its bounteous splendor fresh for the picking. From atop his throne, he basked in the sunlight and the glory of being raised above his other, lesser bretheren. So caught up in his power was he that he failed to notice that all his subjects had vanished. He glanced upward and his triumph turned at once to horror as he realized that the underside of a human's shoe was the last he would ever see.
