All this serie was amazing! I read it when I was a kid!

When the series started, ~100 years ago, Blondie was a flapper (and possibly a showgirl?) and Dagwood was the object of her gold-digging. He came from money. I have no information on how that transmogrified into the stereotypical suburbanite family that I knew growing up.

My understanding is that in 1933, the two got married, but Dagwood's parents didn't approve of him marrying beneath his social/financial class, so they disinherited him, forcing him to become more of a 9 to 5er middle class worker. Blondie must have been in it for the love in the end, because she stuck with him, and they transitioned into that stereotype family from there.
