This was very pleasantly tricky! If I was in a grumpier mood I would probably hate this puzzle, but in my current mood it was a nice challenge.

It could be purple people, ...but one horned, one eyed flying pink (or fill in the blank) people eater just doesn't have the same ring

My Grandma used to joke about the Purple People Eater when I was little. I didn't know it was a song. I was very scared for a while (I'm sure she wouldn't have said anything if she knew it would scare me) until I convinced myself that the phrase "purple people eater" meant that it only ate purple people, so I was safe.
