why is this puzzle a racial caricature? It's a racist, wholely unfitting image for a puzzle.
replyI am shocked. I do not like the racial element of this picture.
replyThe puzzle's kinda fun (I liked doing the zigzag hat) but I'm really not a fan of the racial stereotyping in the picture. :(
replyOh, you are such good and righteous people with your political correct racial alertness. Lighten up. Nobody is targeted here.
replyI do like this puzzle and I don't see any racial element in it.
replyOK, look is there a racial element? Yes, this is an Asian Person. However, that's pretty much as far as it goes. That kind of hat and garb was worn commonly during the Warring Kingdoms Era of China as well as the Feudal Era of Japan. So no, there's no derogatory racial element here. This picture is no more racist than a picture of a Viking, an African Tribal Mask, a German girl in stereotypical Oktoberfest clothes, or a regular ol' black person.

Thank you so much for saying this. I'm actually shocked that there're people out there who are knowledgable enough to know the cultural history of China/Asia and understand that this is not racist. I'm genuinly happy to know that not all people have heroic complex. (sorry for bad English, not the best in it)
replyIt is not derogatory, therefore it is not racist.
replyAs '>:3' points out, there is no direct racism in the picture... well, not at first glance. It does, however, use a garish yellow for skin tone (I dunno if you've ever met, I dunno, literally anyone, but real people aren't bright yellow). It is also labelled "Chinese", which gives the impression that all people of Chinese descent are rice farmers that wear conical hats. How do we know this is racist? Imagine there were a puzzle of a brightly coloured US Marine, or a Cowboy, or a British Peeler (police officer). If the title were just "White Guy" "American" or some other stupidly generic term, people would look at it and go "but hey! That's not just ANY American, it's a GI, or a mobster or whatever. Be specific". The same is the case here.

Have people ever actually seen asian farmers? Maybe a different title would be better but this really isn't just some stereotype. As for the colors, this really wouldn't be the first puzzle to have yellow skin. Get that stick out of your butts people.
replyNotwithstanding that it's just not a very good picture. Why on earth does everyone have to play the 'race card' Don't forget that the original title has been translated into English and it isn't always accurate. Colours are limited on here - this is a basic puzzle. Get off your high horses.
replyI was enjoying this puzzle until I realised just what the hell I was colouring in. what was the point of making this into a racist caricature? very disappointed.
replyWhy does this need to be a racial stereotype? The pointy face, bright yellow skin, lines for eyes, and the hat are racist. It implies that this is how all Chinese people look by grouping them all under the title 'Chinese'. I don't care if people actually wear the rice hats, it's a stereotype and a caricature. Also loxie, the creator could've easily used a different colour for the skin instead of Simpsons yellow. Plus it's generally bad quality.

It is historically accurate to the Warring Kingdoms Era of China
replyalso i dont know where you are getting point from. I see a normally round face and a neck
replyBack in the days black people were stereotyped with fat lips and a stupid look and yes , that was racist and so is this when you call it 'Chinese'. Awful, should be removed.
replythe colours were badly chosen, and the picture in general is of poor taste.
replyMy wife is Chinese and I find this racist and boring. Those saying 'why play the race card' or 'get over it' are frankly not qualified to comment unless they themselves are east Asian or have experienced racism directed at close family or loved ones. I for one won't 'get over it'. My wife has received racist abuse numerous times. Those who are offended by other people getting offended by this ridiculous racist stereotype are the ones who need to 'get over themselves'. As for those talking about the title getting translated from Russian, remember that there are numerous cases of East Asian people being beaten to death in Russia and that racist violence against Asian people is sadly common in that country so the image is much, much worse in a 'Russian context'.

Seriously calm down. To be fair, Chinese people does receive a lot of stereotypes and racism in many other countries. It's hard, but that Doesn't mean there's anything wrong with this picture. It's just a typical Chinese farmer in an outfit commonly found back in the days, and even nowadays in rural areas. And the skintone doesn't have too much problem either, as Chinese is classified as Mongoloids, commonly known as "Yellow people", just like "White people" and "Black people". Your wife being Chinese and has lived through racism doesn't mean everything that is related to Chinese and is slightly not realistic is racist. Try to spend more time to ask for and look up information before assuming anything. This could definitely make this world a better place. Thank you.

Yes, but calling anybody by their skin tone shouldn't really be okay. They should be referred to as Asian, European, or African.
replyOh, and I forgot to mention, I'm a full Chinese who has Also lived though a lot of stereotypes and rasicm, so I'm Very aware of what is and what isn't racist. Just in case you think that I'm racist against my own race and culture.
replyColors are very bright. The background makes it hard to look at the subject of the picture and nobody's skin color is that yellow. Try using lighter colors and looking up references of the people you're trying to draw
replyWhat is going on??? An author makes a picture that resembles how we drew chinese people when we were children, at least where I live, and suddenly it is racist.
Then others get offended because some think it is racist.
And the married couple then gets offended because some users don't find it racist.
Why on earth start with these derogatory comments targeting those who do not judge the picture the way you do.
Can't we all just agree the there are certain things that we do not have the same opinion about.

You lot mystify me!!! How in the name of all that is wonderful is this racist??? beats me.
replyHitler was racist, so was Stalin. Racism hurts/kills someone. You can fairly call this picture 'stereotyping, or stereotypical' where certain characteristics may stand out. But a picture itself is not racist. Pictures or the idea behind them do not harm or hurt. Please stop allowing mass media to define what racism is, because mass media is wrong.
replyI'm a full Chinese, so I think I have the most right to say anything here.
I do NOT see ANY racism in this picture. The puzzle is simple and pretty, and there's nothing wrong with it. This kind of clothing is very common in China back in the days, and still kinda common among farmers in rural areas nowadays. If you go to other East Asian countries, you'll probably see farmers wearing this kind of outfit too. It's NOT weird, and is in NO WAY stereotypical. Seriously you people What The Fuck!?!?!? Stop labeling anything as "racist" when you know NOTHING about that race. It Is Fucking Annoying, and it is actually VERY OFFENDING to the people involved. You're no hero, you just have heroic complex and too much time on your hands. So Shut The Fuck Up. This puzzle is not racist or stereotypical, You People Are!!!

For those who don’t know, East Asian people are classified as Mongoloids, which is commonly known as "Yellow people", right alongside Caucasian("White people") and Negroid("Black people").
replyI get that not everyone sees this as a stereotype, but I still don't think that this puzzle should be on this site.
this is mostly because almost everyone who starts playing has no idea what the end result will be.
In my eyes, one of the reason that there is an option to hide content rated 18+ is to give people an option to opt out of content that would make them uncomfortable or they don't feel is appropriate.
yet there is no similar option for puzzles like this that can make people uncomfortable or even insulted.
i also think that there are valid reasons to feel uncomfortable. stereotypes like these have been used to oppress and alienate people for generations so i think it is reasonable to be uncomfortable when those stereotypes appear even when an author didn't intend to bring in all of the context.(ex. "The Yellow Peril is a color-metaphor that East Asians are an existential danger and threat to the Western world." source: wikipedia)
