replyThank you, Willy! The Russians paid a high price in lost lives and if it were not for Hitler's enormous losses on the Russian front, it is true that Hitler may have won the war. We often forget this when we talk about WWII.

I should have read this excellent article by the BBC first: http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/worldwars/wwtwo/soviet_german_war_01.shtml. We fail to acknowledge that the Allies helped Russia defeat Hitler. WWII almost destroyed the Red Army and cost 10s of millions of lives on the eastern front, but a change in leadership and strategy turned the tide even after enormous losses. Very scary to think what would have happened without Russia.
